Alright, let’s talk about this Brad Gilbert and Andy Roddick fella. Don’t know much about tennis, ya know, but I heard some things. Used to watch it sometimes when the chores were done. Andy Roddick, that young fella, he was somethin’ else. Real strong, like a bull in a china shop, that’s what my old man used to say about strong things.
This Brad fella, he was Andy’s coach, see? Taught him how to swing that racket and whatnot. Like teachin’ a calf how to walk, I guess. Brad, he coached other folks too, like that Agassi fella, real famous he was. Now he’s coachin’ some girl, Coco somethin’-or-other. Kids these days and their funny names, I tell ya.
- Andy was good, real good. Won lots of matches, made us Americans proud. Made me think of them old timey heroes on TV.
- Brad, he helped Andy win, that’s for sure. Like a good horse trainer, gettin’ the best outta the horse. Guess that’s what a coach does, right?
I heard tell that Brad helped Andy win somethin’ big back in 2003. Folks were all excited, sayin’ it was an all-American final. That’s good, right? Americans winnin’ stuff. But Brad, he says it wasn’t a big deal back then, cause lots of Americans were winnin’ back then. Nowadays, it’s different, I guess. Not so many Americans winnin’ no more.
Then there was that scary business with Andy gettin’ sick. Some kinda skin problem, the doctor called it. Had to get somethin’ cut out of his lip. Poor fella. He said he’s gotta get checked all the time now, like makin’ sure the weeds don’t grow back in the garden. He said he’ll be lookin’ like a mess for the rest of his life, that’s what he said, a real mess. Bless his heart. Reminds me of my cousin Jeb, always gettin’ into scrapes.
And then, wouldn’t ya know it, Brad and Andy, they stopped workin’ together. Like a couple of farmhands havin’ a spat and goin’ their separate ways. Happens all the time, I guess. Andy, he had to tell his other coach fella, face to face, that he was hirin’ Brad. That’s the right thing to do, I reckon. Look a man in the eye, that’s what my pappy always said.
So, Brad Gilbert and Andy Roddick. A coach and a player. They did good things together, won some matches, made folks happy. And then, like all things, it ended. Life’s like that, ain’t it? Ups and downs, wins and losses. Just gotta keep on keepin’ on, like plantin’ seeds in the spring, hopin’ somethin’ good will grow.
Heard Brad is still coachin’, like I said, that Coco girl. Good for him, stayin’ busy. And Andy, well, I hope he’s doin’ alright, stayin’ healthy. That’s the most important thing, ain’t it? Health and happiness. More important than any tennis match, that’s for sure.
Now, this Brad guy, he knows tennis, I reckon. Coached all them fancy players. And Andy, he was a fighter, a real go-getter. They made a good team, like biscuits and gravy, ya know? Good on their own, but better together. That’s what I think, anyway. Just an old woman’s opinion, not worth much, but there it is.
And that’s all I gotta say about Brad Gilbert and Andy Roddick. Hope it makes some sense to ya. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens.
