Well, howdy there! Let’s jaw about these here golf sticks, the ones they call “drivers”, special like for folks who ain’t no Tiger Woods but can still whack the ball a good ways. We’re lookin’ at the best ones for 2023, for fellas like my grandson – hits it okay, not great, but gets the job done. We call ‘em “mid-handicappers”, fancy name for “pretty good, not great”.
Now, I hear tell there’s this here Callaway Paradym. Folks say it costs a pretty penny, near ’bout 600 dollars! That’s more than my old man paid for his first truck! But they say it’s got this here fancy “Aldila Ascent PL Blue shaft.” Sounds like somethin’ outta space, don’t it? I reckon it helps the ball go far, though.
Then there’s all sorts of drivers, they say. Fifteen of ‘em, the best of the bunch. GolfPass fellas, they know their stuff, picked ‘em out. Says somethin’ ‘bout caterin’ to different folks. Like some like it sweet, some like it sour, I guess. Same with golf sticks.
One they call the PING G430 Max Driver, that one’s supposed to be real forgivin’. Means even if you don’t hit it perfect, it’ll still go pretty straight. They put some extra weight in the back, see, makes it harder to mess up. MOI, they call it, somethin’ about 5700 of it. Sounds like a lot, whatever it is.
- Forgiveness is key: Now, for us regular folk, we need a driver that don’t punish ya too bad if you don’t hit it smack-dab in the middle. That PING fella sounds right good for that.
- Price ain’t everything: That Callaway might be fancy, but 600 dollars? That’s a lot of biscuits and gravy! Sometimes a cheaper one works just as good, specially if you ain’t no pro.
- Loft is important: This here loft, that’s how much the face of the stick leans back. They say if you swing it fast, you need less loft. Swing it slower, you need more. Somethin’ ‘bout gettin’ the ball up in the air, see? They say 8.5 to 10 degrees is good for the fast swingers, and 10 to 11.5 for the rest of us. My grandson, he swings it okay, so somethin’ in the middle, I reckon.
Now, I don’t know nothin’ ‘bout no “Chase Elliott” or no “Hooters,” heard tell of them fellas on the TV, but that don’t help me hit a golf ball. What we need is a stick that’s gonna get the ball down the fairway, and not in the woods or the water. And one that don’t break the bank, neither.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a good driver in 2023, and you ain’t no fancy pants golfer, look for somethin’ forgiving, somethin’ that fits your swing, and somethin’ that don’t cost more than your car payment. That PING G430 sounds right good, or maybe somethin’ a little cheaper if you ain’t got a pile of money lyin’ around. Just remember, it ain’t the arrow, it’s the Indian, or somethin’ like that. You gotta practice, too, no matter how fancy your stick is.
And one more thing, don’t go buyin’ somethin’ just ‘cause some fella on the TV says it’s good. Go hit a few balls with it, see how it feels in your hands. That’s the best way to know if it’s the right one for you. Now git out there and have some fun!
Choosing a driver ain’t rocket science. Just get one that feels good and helps you hit it straight. Don’t get too caught up in all the fancy talk and numbers. Just go out there and swing!
Remember, golf is supposed to be fun. So don’t stress too much about havin’ the perfect driver. Just get out there and enjoy yourself.
