That Zach Edey, he’s a big fella, ain’t he? I seen him on the TV, playin’ that basketball. He’s taller than my old barn door! Why folks say he gonna be picked so low in that NBA Draft? Don’t make no sense to me. He can dunk that ball like nobody’s business. He is a strong center.
I heard some folks sayin’ he’s slow. Well, maybe he ain’t as fast as a rabbit, but he sure can block them shots! He’s a big wall in front of that basket. 2.3 blocks per game! That’s what I heard. He can rebound, too. Like picking apples off a tree, easy peasy.
They say he can’t move his feet good. Lateral movement? What’s that? Sounds fancy. All I know is, he’s a mountain in the middle. He got good footwork. He can score inside real good. Even against them big strong men in the NBA, he gonna do just fine, I reckon. He can even score, they say he can overpower opponents.
- He’s 7 foot 3, near 300 pounds! That’s bigger than my prize-winning pig!
- They say he got a wingspan of 7 foot 10. What’s a wingspan? Sounds like somethin’ a bird would have.
- He can jump high, too. They got fancy numbers for that, somethin’ about a “vert.” I don’t understand it, but I seen him jump, and it’s somethin’!
They say somethin’ about him and pick-and-roll. I think that pick-and-roll is a kind of dance. I don’t know. I think he will be good. NBA spacing, that is a new word for me. But that boy, he sure can play.
I heard some folks sayin’ he can’t shoot from far away. Well, who needs to shoot from far when you can just dunk it in? Makes more sense to me. But they say he can make them 3-pointers in practice. I don’t know why he don’t do it in the game, then. Maybe he’s savin’ it up for a special occasion.
They talkin’ ’bout him playin’ for some team, the Grizzlies, I think. Sounds like a bunch of bears. They say he gonna start, playin’ with some other fellas, Ja, Marcus, Desmond, and Jaren. Sounds like a good bunch. Maybe Zach will teach them a thing or two about playin’ hard.
They say he’s from Canada. That’s up north, colder than a well-digger’s behind. He plays for their National Team, too. Must be pretty good to play for a whole country. He won a lot of prizes in college, they say. Dominant, they call him. Sounds ’bout right to me.
Some folks was sayin’ he wasn’t gonna be picked at all last year. Now they sayin’ he might be a lottery pick. What’s a lottery? Is that like winnin’ the bingo at the church social? Whatever it is, it sounds good. I hope he gets it.
I heard some of them fancy reporters talkin’ about him. They say he’s a good boy. Serious-minded, they say. Likes to “punish” the other team with his “physicality.” Sounds like he just likes to play hard, like we used to do back in the day. We didn’t have no fancy words for it, though. We just called it playin’ basketball.
He is a good screener, too. I don’t know what is it. But I think he is very good. He takes joy to play the game. That is important. Play hard and be happy.
All this talk about why he’s gonna be picked so low, it just don’t add up to me. He’s a big, strong fella who can play basketball. What else do you need? I think them NBA folks are overthinkin’ it. They should just pick him and be done with it. He’s gonna surprise them all, I reckon. Just like my rooster surprised that fox last spring. Didn’t see that comin’, did he?
